MaskShare

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 July 2026

In one sentence: MaskShare hides sensitive information directly in your browser. All masking and detection happen 100% locally on your device. We do not collect, store on our servers, sell, or transmit your personal data or the content of the pages you visit.

This policy explains what MaskShare (“the extension”, “we”) does and does not do with data. MaskShare is a browser extension that blurs/masks sensitive elements on a web page so you can safely share your screen or take screenshots.

1.Information we do NOT collect

To find sensitive data, the automatic detection feature does need to look at the text of the page you are on — that is unavoidable for any tool that can spot an email address or a card number. The important part is where this happens: the analysis runs entirely inside your browser, in memory, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is written to disk, no server of ours ever sees it, and the text is discarded as soon as the page is closed. Detection also only runs on the categories you switch on.

2.Data stored locally on your device

To make the extension work, MaskShare saves a few settings using your browser’s local storage (chrome.storage.local). This data stays on your device and is not sent to us:

3.The only network request MaskShare makes

MaskShare makes a single type of network request: license validation. When you activate a Pro license, and periodically afterwards to confirm it is still valid, the extension sends your license key and our public organization identifier to Polar’s licensing API (api.polar.sh).

On first activation it also sends a short device label (for example MaskShare · Chrome · A1B2) so that you can recognise and revoke your own devices from your customer portal. This label contains no identifier that can be traced back to you beyond the browser family, and it is generated randomly on your device.

No page content, browsing data, or personal information is sent in this request. See the Polar Privacy Policy.

4.Payments

Purchases are handled by Polar (Polar Software Inc.), which acts as the Merchant of Record. When you buy a subscription or a lifetime license, your payment and billing information is processed by Polar and its payment providers under their own privacy policy — MaskShare never sees or stores your payment details.

5.Permissions and why we use them

6.Data sharing

We do not share any data with third parties, except the license key and device label sent to Polar for the sole purpose of validating your license and processing payments (as described above).

7.Children

MaskShare is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

8.Your rights

Because MaskShare stores everything on your own device and we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export or erase on your behalf. You can delete all locally stored data at any time by removing the extension from your browser. For data related to your purchase — invoices, billing address, payment method — Polar is the controller; you can access and manage it from your customer portal, or contact us and we will help you reach them.

9.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
